Depp plans to join the band on stage for this one-off gig on November 12th to promote the new Babybird album ‘Ex-Maniac’ which is due for release in February 2010. Instrumental in getting the album produced was Depp’s introduction of Babybird frontman Stephen Jones to friends of his in the music industry.

Originally meeting on the set of Michael Mann film Public Enemies, Depp and Jones became friends when Depp revealed his admiration of the British band.

A lesser known fact is that as well as major movie rolls, Johnny Depp is also an accomplished guitarist and has featured on tracks such as Oasis’ Fade-In Out. He has also composing soundtrack pieces for films including Once Upon A Time In Mexico and Chocolat.

Dearer ticket fears if merger agreed

Millions of music fans may face dearer concert tickets if a proposed mega-merger between two of the music worlds super powers gets the go ahead.

Watchdogs have expressed grave concerns about the tie-up between booking agency Ticketmaster and promoter Live Nation. Fears are that already expensive ticket prices for events such as X Factor, Cold Play, Britney Spears and Take That will increase further.

The Competition Commission wants to scupper the  £500million deal but admits that It’s powerless as both businesses are US based. Although the Competition Commission cannot block the deal it claims that options remain to limit the powers of a newly merged super company here in the UK.

One option under consideration is to force bosses to split or sell UK arms of the business or make gig tickets available through rival companies.

Current estimates show that Ticketmaster holds around 50% of the UK’s concert and gig ticket market, with nearest rival See Tickets at about 20%.

Do you think that this merger should be allowed? Will it effect you and your willingness to buy tickets if  prices were to increase? Let us know what you think.
